Highlights of the Seminar:
Geriatric medicine is the medical specialty
focusing on the health care of elderly persons.
The process of ageing is due to cumulative
effectors of life-long stressors and diseases
causing gradual accumulation of cell and tissue
damage. Various theories of aging include master
clock theory, Intoxication theory, rate of living
theory etc. Commonly faced geriatric problems
are joint pains, cardiovascular diseases, accidental
falls, senile dementia, depency, emotional
problems. Goals of treatment in geriatric age
group must be realistic and individualized, with
an emphasis on returning the patient to a
functional lifestyle.
